Graduating from Salford University in 1978 with an honours degree in Modern Languages, Brian worked for years in the Civil Service and local government.
Having a passion for military history and archaeology from an early age, Brian eventually opted for a career change that would make his hobby pay and, at the tender age of 35, he was commissioned into the Education Branch of the Royal Air Force. His natural nosiness soon led him to transfer to the Intelligence Branch, where he remained until retiring from the RAF as a Squadron Leader in 2012.
