Stepping Inside Dementia

Lincolnshire Community Foundation and QEGS – Creating a Dementia Friendly Generation

Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK.  At Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School we are aiming to make a difference by educating people to help support those suffering with dementia.  With the generous support of the Lincolnshire Community Foundation Horncastle & District Health & Wellbeing Fund we are delighted that we can extend this opportunity through our adult education programme to benefit the local community, offering training in addition to awareness sessions both of which will be free of charge.

We anticipate places will be in great demand, please telephone Mrs James to book your place on 01507 522465.

What will the training cover?

This introductory skills based course will enable participants to understand the unique ways that dementia affects people and how it can impact on everyday life, including how to apply evidence based practical tools for understanding positive ways of working with people with dementia.

  • Who’s Right – examining attitudes towards dementia
  • What’s Happening – what is dementia?
  • A Strange New World – the changing brain and its affects
  • Building Positive Relationships – How damage to the brain caused by dementia can impact on everyday life
  • Connect With Me – communication techniques

The Alzheimer’s Society are the largest national charity specialising in dementia.  Their trainers all have professional experience of supporting people living with dementia and courses include the latest research, knowledge and practice from across the Society.  The training is outcome focused, activity based and engaging.  You can be confident that you are taking part in specialist training from an expert organisation that has been providing training since 1979.
